Perhaps it’s because I speak the language, because the culture in many ways reminds me of my own Iranian culture, because it is magnificent, or perhaps because of all of this, Spain is another one of my favorite places to visit, especially the southern region of Andalucía. Here, the Spanish culture blends with remnants of Moorish influence. From beautiful coastal towns along the edge of the sea up to the pristine white villages in the hills, this region is a must see. It is where Flamenco was born and is home to the extraordinary Alhambra, in the lovely town of Granada, and the exquisite Mezquita in Cordoba. What’s most remarkable about this region, however, is the people–they are amongst the nicest and most generous people I have met throughout my travels, and share a very similar kindness and hospitality to the people that I met while traveling in Iran.
